Reanimation
Collaboration with Cari Vander Yacht
Date: 2013
For the project “Reanimation”, Thomas Sauvin has invited the graphic designer Cari Vander Yacht to play around with hundreds of photographs from the Beijing Silvermine archive. She has eventually created eight animated GIFs, intertwining humorous with poetical elements while reanimating memories that were meant to be forgotten. “Above all, I think that Thomas and I wanted was to disclose the narrative laying behind the images. By looking closely at these photographs, I was hoping to decode a hidden story. The most exciting thing with lost and found photographs is that one can dream about lives of strangers, imagine what they were doing or thinking, fantasize about their relationships with the photographer…In general, I invented rather surrealists scenarios as I always tend to evade reality, this is much more fun.”
